How Semaglutide at Bright Horizons Psychiatry Works

What is Semaglutide?

How Semaglutide Works for Weight Loss

Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA), mimics a hormone in the gut that regulates appetite and fullness. When combined with a healthy diet and exercise, it can lead to significant weight loss, reducing BMI levels.

Addressing Weight Gain from Psychiatric Medications

For individuals experiencing weight gain from psychiatric medications, Semaglutide provides a valuable solution to address this side effect while improving overall health. With increasing demand, some doctors prescribe off-label brands like Ozempic and Rybelsus for weight loss.

Proven Effectiveness of Semaglutide

Semaglutide’s effectiveness is clear; in a study of 2,000 adults, those using it with diet and exercise lost up to 15–20% of their body weight compared to just 2.4% with lifestyle changes alone.

Importance of Lifestyle Changes with Semaglutide

Studies show that while Semaglutide effectively supports weight loss, doctors stress that lifestyle changes like diet and exercise remain essential for managing obesity. Semaglutide offers an additional option based on clinical history, including weight gain caused by psychiatric medications.

What Our Patients Are Saying About Bright Horizons Psychiatry

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How does Weight Loss Program help with weight loss?

GLP-1 works by reducing hunger and helping you feel full faster. It regulates your appetite, making it easier to manage your weight even while on medications that may contribute to weight gain.

Q2. Is this weight loss program safe to use with my psychiatric medications?

Yes, our program is designed specifically for patients who are on psychiatric medications. We provide close monitoring and work alongside your existing mental health treatment to ensure that your overall well-being is prioritized.

Q3. How long will it take to see results with the weight loss program?

Results can vary, but many patients begin to see noticeable weight loss within a few weeks of starting or treatment. Consistent use, along with guidance from our medical team, will help you achieve your goals.

Q4. Do I need to make lifestyle changes while on this program?

While our Weight Loss Program helps with weight loss, incorporating healthy eating habits, diet and regular physical activity will enhance your results.

Q5. What is GLP-1?

GLP-1 is a medication originally developed to manage type 2 diabetes, but it has shown to be effective for weight loss as well. It works by mimicking a hormone (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation, helping individuals feel fuller for longer and reducing overall calorie intake.

Q6. How much weight can be lost with GLP-1?

Weight loss results can vary, but studies have shown that patients may lose between 10-15% of their body weight over several months when using GLP-1, alongside diet and lifestyle modifications. Your results will depend on your starting weight, diet, and exercise.

Q7. How often do I take GLP-1 injections?

GLP-1 is typically administered once a week as a subcutaneous injection. Your provider will determine the appropriate dose for you, and the dose will be adjusted over time.
